At the 2014 National Auctioneers Association (NAA) International Auctioneer Championship (IAC) recently held Friday, July 11 in Louisville, Kentucky, three questions were asked of the contestants. Here, we note those three questions and our answers to them:
What makes you a great auctioneer?
In the opening session, Garrison Wynn spoke on truth about success. How would you define success?
When casting your votes for NAA leadership, what information do you consider to make your final decisions?
What makes you a great auctioneer?
There are thousands of great auctioneers in the United States and around the world. Humbly, I consider myself one of those — and in no short measure, my worthiness to my clients and customers is due to my membership in the National Auctioneers Association. The NAA has allowed me to network with other great auctioneers and exposed me to world-class auctioneer education. Further, being an NAA member allows me to “pay forward,” by helping other auctioneers succeed.
In the opening session, Garrison Wynn spoke on truth about success. How would you define success?
Wasn’t Garrison’s presentation wonderful? I think he’d agree almost everyone defines success differently. For example, some consider money the ultimate measure of success; some consider a contribution to their own community or to the greater good a sign of success; still, others define success in regard to how happy they are. I consider success maybe some of all of that — and as an auctioneer, I have a job I really enjoy, get to work with and provide for my immediate family and provide a valuable service to the public.
When casting your votes for NAA leadership, what information do you consider to make your final decisions?
NAA was in the enviable position of having six outstanding candidates to fill three open leadership positions. Every one of them has NAA’s best interests at heart. Our choices, and likely every other member’s choices, depended on who we thought would best lead this organization into the coming decade. NAA continues to be guided by the very best auctioneers in this industry and has a very bright future ahead.
