What exactly makes a choice in college education strange? I would guess “strange” comes from unusual, and/or not common?
We estimate that less than 1,000 people graduate from auction school (auction “college”) in an average year. There are schools all over the United States, and class sizes range from only a few to just over 100.
A survey last year noted that auctioneering was one of the 20 strangest college degrees.
Others making the list included:
Puppetry, University of Connecticut
Professional nanny, Sullivan University in Kentucky

All in all, being an auctioneer (or going to school to become one) isn’t really that strange. Over thousands of auctions take place every day in the United States — most conducted by auctioneers — with certainly more auctions than, say, puppetry events.
